Tools and resources
Before, after, and during researches, various tools and resources can help organize the data. The following data management services available to support psychological research are offered by the Faculty of Psychology:
REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a web application that provides user-friendly and secure methods for flexible yet robust data capture. Developed by Vanderbilt University, it mandates a web interface that allows users to quickly create and manage online surveys and databases. It is designed to provide a secure environment where research teams can collect and store sensitive data.

The IT department of the Faculty of Psychology provides researchers with a documentation platform(Confluence).
The Confluence instance of the Faculty of Psychology offers:
- The documentation of the research question, the methods used, the test subjects, the experiments or observations carried out, the data analysis and the conclusions.
- Collaboration within the research team
- Secure and protected storage of the documentation
- Secure access with rights management

At https://meet.psychologie.unibas.ch/ we provide a secure video conferencing platform (Jitsi Meet) for all researchers at the Faculty of Psychology.
Jitsi Meet is an open-source video conferencing platform that enables users to hold video meetings in real time. The platform places a strong focus on security and privacy by providing end-to-end encryption for video and audio transmissions as well as a variety of security features to ensure user privacy. Jitsi Meet requires no software installation and enables straightforward, secure video conferencing directly in the web browser.

Our faculty-owned research data repository provides secure and effective management of research data:
- Enables the storage and management of data collected, generated or used as part of research projects.
- Enables the sharing of data within research groups and facilitates the exchange of data between researchers.
- Provides access at research group level, definable by the research group itself.
- Can provide data analysis and processing functions as it can be connected directly to our VM infrastructure.
- Provides a secure and stable storage environment to archive and protect this data in the long term.
Note: every person with a faculty account has a personal research data storage (instructions for connecting). This is the same as your own username.

Nextcloud is an open source platform for managing and sharing files and information. Nextcloud allows researchers to upload, organize and share files, and researchers can access their Nextcloud instance from multiple devices, whether through a web browser or desktop and mobile apps. This platform enables real-time collaboration on documents and offers features such as file versioning and recovery to ensure the security and integrity of data.
In addition, Nextcloud emphasizes security and privacy by offering features such as end-to-end encryption capabilities and granular access control.

The Research Data Management Organizer (RDMO) supports research projects in the planning, implementation and administration of all research data management tasks. It is primarily a tool for creating and maintaining a data management plan (DMP) for your research projects, whereby various templates for a DMP can be selected, which can also be adapted to your project.

We make virtual machines available to researchers at the Faculty of Psychology:
- for the calculation and processing of research data (e.g. with R, R-Studio, MATLAB, audio-video editing)
- for conducting online surveys and online experiments
- for automation, execution of scripts, preparation of data

Qualtrics is a leading research platform that provides researchers with powerful tools to conduct complex surveys and studies. The platform enables the precise collection, analysis and interpretation of research data, making research processes more efficient and providing sound academic insights.

LibreChat with OpenAI enables users to create and integrate AI-powered chatbots and research associates. It uses OpenAI's language models to enable natural language processing so that the chatbot can respond to requests in a human-like manner. This can be used in various applications such as customer service, task automation, interactive chat and more. LibreChat provides a user-friendly interface to utilize the AI functionalities of OpenAI.

Rocket.chat is an open source communication tool that is ideal for research teams. It offers real-time chat, file and information sharing, and integration with other tools. Particularly useful in research communication are the possibilities for collaboration in channels, secure data transfer and customizability, which enables efficient and transparent communication.

Inquisit is a comprehensive software platform designed specifically for conducting psychological experiments and behavioral research.
With a user-friendly interface, it enables precise control over stimulus presentation, data collection and analysis. The software supports a variety of experimental paradigms and integrates advanced measurement devices to ensure accurate and reliable results. Through its modularity and customizability, Inquisit enables efficient execution of a wide variety of studies, supporting versatile and advanced research.

We operate the free survey software LimeSurvey on our own infrastructure. The big advantage of this is that your data remains at the university, which is a very important aspect of data protection for many studies. We will be happy to set up access for you.

Our forms platform enables the connection of internal (internal network or VPN) and external forms. The data entered is then sent by e-mail. The forms can be designed easily and flexibly according to your needs, and we will be happy to support you in this.
We operate our own GitLab server, which you are welcome to use for your sources.
