Research

Our research seeks to understand the psychological mechanisms underlying information search, representation, and integration, with a focus on how individuals of all ages gather and evaluate evidence to make decisions under risk and uncertainty. We are committed to theoretical and methodological pluralism, embracing diverse approaches to deepen our understanding of these processes.

Evidence, Risk, and Uncertainty

The Center for Cognitive and Decision Sciences investigates how evidence, risk, and uncertainty are understood across different contexts. The Center applies insights from cognitive and decision sciences to improve the communication of complex information in domains such as health, wealth, sustainable behaviour, and emerging technologies. Particular emphasis is placed on how people mentally represent risks and benefits, how public and media discourse shape these representations, and how communication can help diverse audiences make informed decisions.

Tailoring Interventions: Understanding Variation Across Individuals

Effective communication and policy depend on understanding the people they aim to serve. Our work examines how individual differences—spanning age, cognition, or social background—shape how people understand evidence, evaluate risks, and respond to uncertainty. We aim to develop communication strategies that recognize this diversity, supporting more inclusive public understanding and decision-making across domains.
