How can we restructure the world we live in to systematically promote pro-environmental behaviors?
In the Department of Sustainability and Behavior Change, we address this question through a combination of laboratory, online, and field experiments. We develop, test, and utilize methods for examining general principles of pro-environmental behavior change under controlled conditions. In field experiments, we then apply these principles to everyday situations of environmental relevance. For example, we have been studying interventions to reduce the consumption of energy, meat, plastic, and clothing or to promote pro-environmental behaviors in private gardens.
