Digital Lives
Digital media have become an constant companion in our everyday lives. The use of digital media, usually characterized by short, fragmented usage episodes, is integrated into almost all areas of life. Smartphones are often used first thing in the morning and last thing before going to bed and AI-based chatbots are being used more and more for everyday tasks. The deep integration of digital media into everyday life can have far-reaching consequences for individuals and their social relationships.
The Center of Digital Lives, headed by Lara Wolfers, researches everyday digital life and its consequences for individuals and their social relationships. We thereby consider both, negative and positive effects of digital media on well-being and social relationships. With our research, we want to help maximize the potential of digital media and minimize the risks of digital media. In our teaching, we help to ensure that our students gain a balanced view of research on digital media and are able to methodically and theoretically evaluate and integrate psychological research findings and unterstand their significance for different areas of life
