Society and Choice
The core research area “Society & Choice” concentrates on human behavior in the social and economic environment. The research area is based on key societal challenges of the future, such as climate change, the shift towards a sustainable economy, misinformation in public discourse, demographic change and the associated challenges for social security systems, increasing digitalization in many areas of society and the economy, and social interaction in a hybrid world. These challenges and the ongoing transformation constantly confront people with new questions. This shift requires a proactive process of human adjustment and adaptation. People have a choice as to how they master these challenges and what interventions they use to meet them. With our research, we try to find out how people perceive their social and economic environment, interact with other people in that environment, and then adapt to it.
The research area Society & Choice encompasses the following centers:
- Developmental and Personality Psychology (Prof Dr Alexander Grob)
- Economic Psychology (Prof Dr Jörg Rieskamp)
- Cognitive & Decision Sciences (Prof Dr Rui Mata)
- Social Psychology (Prof Dr Greifeneder)
- Psychology of Behavioural Change & Sustainability (Prof. Dr Ulf Hahnel)
- Statistics and Data Sciences (Prof. Dr Mirka Henninger)
Additionally, centers for Digital Lives and for Human Development will be established in the next few years.
