Loreen Tisdall currently works as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Cognitive and Decision Sciences, University of Basel. She holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Basel, and has completed postgraduate degrees in Security and Crime Science at University College London, as well as Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience at the Free University Berlin. Loreen’s current research focuses on the functional and structural brain networks underpinning and potentially driving individual differences in risk taking. She is interested in the reliability of neuroimaging findings, which led her to independently and as part of a many-analysts project examine the reproducibility of the neural correlates of risky choice. In the past, Loreen has worked with large-scale panel data collected in Europe, Australia and Asia.
Laura Fontanesi is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Economic Psychology at the University of Basel. She is interested in understanding the psychological and neurobiological foundations of human decision making in the presence of rewards. She is also a self-taught Python programmer and enthusiast. She thinks that learning to code is very important in science, as it enables scientists to look at problems from different angles, develop new tools, and make their work reproducible. In particular, she would like to share her passion for using code for visualisation at different stages of the analyses: from planning an experiment, to the exploration of the data and to post-analyses checks.
Eva Günther is a Customer Experience Manager at NZZ Mediengruppe where she is building up and shaping Customer Experience by systemizing quantitative and qualitative customer research. She holds a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Psychology with Major in Decision Sciences from the University of Basel, Switzerland. Prior to her current position, she worked as a research associate with the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in the context of behavioral change in the energy in the energy sector. As a consultant at FehrAdvice & Partners (Behavioral Economics Consultancy Group) she developed customized solutions based on evidence-based insights to answer operational and strategic questions in various industries.
Anja Roth is a PhD candidate at the chair for applied econometrics at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Her research interests lie in gender and family economics, with a special focus on gender norms. Her projects rely heavily on the use of survey and administrative data, currently focusing on how the two sources can be used to gain valuable insights into norms. During her PhD, she visited the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) in Bergen, Norway.
Rebecca Albrecht is a PhD Candidate at the Center for Economic Psychology at the University in Basel. As a PhD student, her research focuses on writing computer models to describe and explaing human behavior in several domains. To do this, she designs behavioral experiments to collect data and uses data science methods to evaluate the computational models. Prior to this, Rebecca studied Computer Science at the University of Freiburg, Germany.
Michaela Slotwinski is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Basel and the Department "Social Policy and Redistribution” at the ZEW Mannheim. Her areas of expertise include political and public economics as well as applied econometrics. In her research she exploits quasi-experimental settings to answer questions on migration, taxation, gender and politics. During her PhD, she visited the Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare (MIM) in Malmö, Sweden, and the Danish National Centre for Social Research (SFI), Copenhagen.
Jana Jarecki currently works as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the center for Economic Psychology at the University of Basel. Her research focuses on judgment and decision making, cognitive psychology, and evolutionary psychology. She combines computational cognitive models with machine learning techniques to understand human behavior. She holds a PhD from the Center for Adaptive Behavior and Cognition, Max‐Planck‐Institute for Human Development, Berlin. Through her research, she worked with the Chair of Microeconomics, University of Rostock, Germany, the CODER Center for Community Driven Research, Department of Physics and Astronomy, and the Interacting Minds Centre at Aarhus University, Denmark.
Mirjam Seckler is a Senior User Experience Researcher at Google, and lecturer at the University of Basel and University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil. Before joining Google in 2015, she worked as a user experience designer and researcher for different smaller and larger companies in Switzerland, India and the US. She currently leads a user experience research team on Google's brand advertising products and YouTube. Mirjam loves to learn what people need and want from products and services and evaluates the user experience by using a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Aya Kachi is Assistant Professor for Political Economics of Energy Policy. Her areas of expertise include statistical methodology, political economy, and the quality of public policy-making from citizens’ perspectives. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Illinois, M.A. in Economics from Duke University, and B.A. in Economics from the University of Tokyo. Outside of the University, she currently serves as the Director of the Empirical Methodology Section of the Swiss Political Science Association, a board member of the Faculty of Economics Alumni Association at the University of Tokyo, and as the Co-Lead of the Energy Governance Work Package in the SCCER-CREST (the Swiss Competence Center for Energy Research - Society and Transitions). On a voluntary basis, she occasionally works with Propulsion Academy, a private Data Science academy based in Zurich.
