Basel Graduate School of Psychology

The Basel Graduate School of Psychology (BGSP) designs and coordinates the educational program for PhD-students at the Department of Psychology. The BGSP's main goal is to support and advance the PhD-students’ academic development and their scientific careers. The training program of the BGSP is tailored to the academic needs of the PhD-students and is matched with the department’s standards of excellence.

PhD Statistical counseling sessions (Statistiksprechstunde) offered by Dr. Andrea Meyer

As part of the BGSP’s educational program, Dr. Andrea Meyer offers support concerning statistical problems and questions. The BGSP considers this offer as “help for self-help,” that is, Dr. Andrea Meyer provides support and advice, but will not run the data analyses himself. If you need help/advice, please adhere to the following procedure:

  • PhD-students can apply two to three weeks prior to the scheduled appointment via e-mail to Andrea Meyer. Your e-mail should contain some suggestions regarding time/date as well as a short description of your statistical problem (3-4 sentences).
  • PhD-students are expected to be well-prepared for the appointment and postprocessing is done self-reliantly according to the support given by Dr. Andrea Meyer.
  • Counseling sessions will take about 30 minutes.

Seeking ethical approval for doctoral research

The Basel Graduate School of Psychology strongly recommends that PhD-students seek ethical approval for all the research conducted as part of their dissertation, even if a specific research question does not necessitate such approval by federal law. More information on how to seek ethical approval is provided by the Department of Psychology Ethics Committee. PhD-students are encouraged to discuss this matter regularly with their PhD-committee.
